I didn’t know that Martin’s term Dreadnought was take from the British warship HMS Dreadnought. I tried a Martin D-28 today and  even though the measurements between body styles isn’t very much I  could tell it wasn’t a “triple o” body. I guess one would get used to it, but I prefer the smaller body.

I remember seeing a tv show somewhere early in my learning about about guitars.  I have no ideas now where it was:  YouTube, NetFlix?   but it explained how the large Gibson guitars were named "Dreadnought" after the battleship.  I remember thinking how weird that was.  I still think that.  And I still don't know why they named it after the battleship.  The documentary never did explain why; just the fact they did.

As an old sailor, I know that the HMS DreadnOught was a revolution in warship design. Nothing else could match its design and firepower from its large guns. The same can be said for the dreadnAught guitar.Lotsa luck.

@Dan Brown sent me this link by text when he saw the conversation.  I was hoping he would post it here as well but I will.

This guitar is not only a Dreadnought it has a Dreadnought on it!   One gorgeous guitar.

"The HMS Dreadnought was the largest battleship of the British Royal Navy and serves as the inspiration behind the name of the Dreadnought sized guitar. "
