  1. Thanks for the tips @Old Guy Not keen at all to upgrade my 2 yrs old PC laptop... I've got another "issue report " into Avid... I'll see what they say too.
  2. That would certainly be a much simpler way if all you wanted to do was record yourself alone, or play a backing track in the background on some other device.
  3. Well, after a month or so of struggling with all the downloads for ProToolsFirst, the plug-ins and countless hours with LiveChat and emails with Avid (maker or ProTools) and Focusrite, about the plug ins, i think I'm settled with the process. It turned out in the end that the "My Software" on the Focusrite page which offered a dozen free plug ins, does not specify which will work with ProTools and which will not! As a result a lot of them didnt show up in ProTools, causing me to think there was something wrong, and whole bunch of frustration and wasted time. I think I can get down to recording with it. Or can I? Now I'm getting an Error message that says "ProTools has shut down trying to stop" , which in the middle of a project stops the recording an playback, meaning I have to close the program, and start it up again. Jeech.... I did get to record a couple of test guitar tracks and vocal tracks... but nothing to really work with or keep yet. Getting a bit more familiar with the software, but man, there is a LOT to learn here. Reaper is looking very good about now....
  4. I used to watch the Gibson Skills House lessons all the time. In fact its where I was introduced to Steve Krenz which lead me to his Learn and Master course. I learned a lot from them and Arlen Roth and it did influence me to buy my first Gibson ,my ES335. Gibson missed a very effective marketing tool by not using quality lessons like these and now apparently abandoning them altogether. I hope the lessons are archived
  5. Swing? Well... thats a good question. Musicians are always on the hunt for "it" . A common term among Jazz musicians it refers to a "feel" or gut response to the music and the beat. In the case of Minuet in C , a waltz in 3/4 time, ( rythym count 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3,)the Swing would mean putting emphasis on beat 1 of each bar, as a dancer would in taking a step. In other forms like jazz , the " swing" comes from emphasis on beats 2 and 4 in 4/4 time, etc. I hope that makes sense.
  6. Nice overview @Old Guy we'll be interested to see your progress on this kit. I'm sure there are a lot of guys who have thought of doing this but weren't sure whats involved so they will be happy to watch you do it!
  7. @Wim VD1 Besides the great playing you've become very good at the recording process too ?. , something I'm just getting into (struggling with ProTools) Mixing /volume levels spot on. Done in just 2 evenings... im staggered ? Kindest regards N
  8. Super job as always @Wim VD1 I really liked your interpretation of the song (which is primarily an organ tune... ) and very well recorded too. Was that in 2 tracks? Regards Neil
  9. @Funkcanna Great job with Minuet C! @S Bach I suggest using a metronome and tapping your foot to help with the timing issues, rests etc. Try for a flowing melodic line once you get the tune "down" . Eventually you" ll be playing this from memory.
  10. Hi @Victor Edwards Let me add my welcome to Guitar Gathering! Thanks for checking in here and sharing a bit about yourself. Feel free to participate in the Forums, ask questions, and receive encouragement. We are of all skill levels from absolute beginner to professionals... and everything in between. So there's always an answer or friendly advice. Going the the Guitar Gathering Summer Conference is a super way to be introduced, learn and have fun. Many participants are newer player/students too. You dont say what course of study you're following, but if you aren't already, I recomment Steve Krenz's Learn and Master Guitar program, produced by Leagacy Learning Systems .https://gx169.infusionsoft.app/app/storeFront/showProductDetail?productId=5 They are available retail as well as on line; just google them. Also available here through our Store are the Fretboard Workouts, https://gx169.infusionsoft.app/app/storeFront/showCategoryPage?categoryId=19v an excellent way to focus on certain aspects of learning. I'd suggest you start those with Major Scale Mastery. (Downloadable, very inexpensive and great!) All the Best! NeilES335 - Moderator

  12. @Funkcanna Hi glad you're here abd welcome to the Guitar Gathering family?. The LMG course is very comprehensive covering a lot of ground. No need to rush! Take your time, be sure you understand the material and can play and read the notes on the staff accurately before moving on. Use the jam tracks and play along at the prescibed tempo. You are developing skills that you will really need later. Enjoy the trip and let us know how you're doing.
  13. @Wim VD1 You're right, that was a great loop and tune he played; very melodic. ? I've never seen a guitar like that where the back comes off and the player can "hot swap" pickups (on the fly no less..) . Very interesting design... (although I wonder if switch would do much the same) for those that love to customize their guitars. Regards; Neil
  14. Wow Kevin and Isa Great Job! I had not heard that song before and really enjoyed that. Very good mixing job too Kevin. What equipment and DAW did use use? Guitar playing very good,, error free, and well balanced. (A bit long maybe.) Hope I can do as well soon. Regards; Neil
  15. @BKHamreWelcome to our Guitar Gathering family! We're glad you're here.. Im sure you'll fit right in and enjoy a positive learning environment with likeminded folks. 16. I emailed Greg directly and he was kind to answer promptly. He suggested I just use double sided tape. Duh... I had not thought of that... He also gave me a rough idea on what my guitar is worth today too. Thanks @Greg Voros
  17. Greetings;Greg I have a 1968 Ovation Balladeer acoustic, with Sitka spruce top and the classic deep bowl parabolic "Lyrachord" composite back. It's in original fine condition. There was a "non slip " rubber pad glued to the underside between the upper and lower bouts, to prevent slippage on the knee when playing seated. I still have the pad but want to be careful about what adhesive I use to repair it.... Any thoughts? Thanks very much for being a great friend to Guitar Gathering, and for your time. All the Best! 18. Great job with that Wim as usual! Maybe you'd like to try this backing track on my SoundCloud station. I can't take credit for it. It's in the BB King style. https://soundcloud.com/search?q=neiles335
  19. @ozy Sounds like you're getting started on the right track. Take it easy and get accustomed to the feel of the guitar, and the strings. Your fingertips will be sore for a while. Don't worry about it. They will toughen up in time, developing callouses, then just become hardened so you hardly notice any more. For absolute beginners, I'd stick to the main LMG course. You can also try the Song Hits course too, which Steve designed to be used in concert with the LMG. Use the play along "jam tracks" as well. This is plenty. You have a way to go, but with regular, consistent, focused practice, you'll be amazed to see how you'll progress. Remember, the suggested time lines for each lesson are just that, suggested. The Finger-style and Blues courses are for more advanced players, who would (in my opinion) need to be about Session 10 or so before tackling them with any likelihood of progress. All the Best! Neil
  20. HI Folks; Just letting you know it's time for another clean up of Open Talk. .... so if you'd really like a certain topic to remain, (regardless of how old or stale) please let me know..
  21. Regarding Pro Tools First - Free Download If you are thinking of buying a Focusrite Solo, 2i2 Studio or similar product like I did, do youself a BIG favour. DON'T download the on-line PRO-TOOLS FIRST internet version! Focusrite includes a huge bundle of included Plug Ins (which would cost hundreds $$) from various partners, free with the Scarlet interfaces, and HAVE THEIR OWN DEDICATED VERSION OF PRO TOOLS FIRST. Turns out ONLY this version works with the big bundle of plug ins; Not the on line version. After spending many hours with tech support trying to find the plug ins in ProToolsFirst, unsuccessfully, apparently this is my issue that i have to sort out with Avid Software, the maker of ProToolsFirst. A word to the wise.
  22. Welcome Greg and wife! Very nice to meet you. Glad you decided to come out an join the discussions. Sounds like you're doing great at Session 6 after a year is good progress. An the Fretboard workouts are a great tool to add as well. Yes the course is packed full of information for the absolute beginner to the aspiring professional. Look a Collin Hill, (you can find him on YouTube) a young upcoming phenomenal talent who started the LMG course less than 5 yrs ago, and is now performing, recording and teaching! But of course you can work at your own pace and decide on your own goals. Check in often and let us know how you're doing and join us on Live Lessons! All the Best NeilES335 - Moderator
  23. @rkl312 Glad to see you;ve recovered and are back playing again! Good idea to spend a bit of time going through the lessons to refresh your memory and get the muscles working again! Enjoy ?
