  1. I know of a local violinist who played during brain surgery, and I've also heard of a flutist doing the same. It's pretty amazing! Scary, but amazing. It helps the surgeons to know exactly where to work, and at the same time, avoid doing damage in another area of the brain.
  2. Thank you for posting this. I was aware that strings needed to be muted, but I didn't know how to do it.
  3. Congratulations on your new guitar! The back is beautiful!
  4. Mandy, I did not know about your situation, but I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. I hope it helps you to know that many people here are thinking about you and praying for you. Take care. Mary
  5. Thanks for posting this! I really enjoyed watching it. I also have a 12 string, which I just recently pulled out again. I'm waiting for a new set of strings, and looking forward to playing around with it. When I last used it, all I did was strum chords, so I would like to take it to a different level and try some fingerstyle playing. Enjoy your new guitar!
  6. Congratulations! I really like the look of the wood on the back of the guitar.
  7. Congratulations! That's a beautiful guitar.
  8. Nice find Randy, and that case is amazing! I've never seen one like that before. Have fun with your new guitar!
  9. Thanks for sharing these Neil! This reminded me that I have some wicked flute exercises by Slonimsky which I should pull out again.
  10. The thought of trying to do this boggles my mind! But good for Justin, for trying to see how his course will work out for left handers. Thanks Ning for posting it. It is very interesting.
  11. Welcome back Marty! I hope your health continues to improve, and that you are able to keep playing your guitar. I hope you have a good year ahead!
  12. That was a lovely piece Maria, very nice playing! Your puppy dog is cute. I watched your video, imagining how nice it must have been to be playing out in the sunshine. I found myself thinking, spring WILL come again! (It was zero degrees in St. Paul MN this morning)
  13. Hi Maria, I am slow to respond to this, but I am happy to see you back here on the forum and on the live lessons! I often wondered about you. I am sorry to hear about your dad, but it is nice that you were able to spend time with him in his last years. I had the same situation with my dad, and I treasure the time I had with him. One of the great things about this guitar course, is that you CAN leave and come back, as I think many of us have done over the years! I find that with regular practicing, it doesn't take too long to get back to where I was when I left off. I also play other stringed instruments (mandolin, violin, ukulele), and I find that they help my guitar playing and vice versa. They complement each other somehow. Welcome back! Mary, AKA Alice
  14. Hi Randy! Good to hear that it wasn't too serious and that your finger will soon be back to normal. ?
