This is absolutely true! There’s no worry about being at any skill level, we are all on the same path and this is the most encouraging and supportive group ever.

The doom rooms are typical dorm rooms - two beds in each room and an attached bathroom which is shared with the adjoining room. There is a sink and a mirror in each room. There was also some basic dorm furniture like dressers, a desk and a chair, twin size bed, and a closet. They provide bedding, but if you're particular about it you might want to bring a blanket and a pillow with you. I think last year there was enough space so that everyone had their own room, but I'm not sure how it will work out this coming year. Last year the ladies were all on their own floor, with the men on a different floor.

For those of you who are devoted to small amps, particularly small tube amps, what are some of your favorites? I have been getting to know a Fender Princeton recently, and it really sounds great. I have the '68 version, which is 12 watts instead of 15, but it still puts out a LOT of sound. Cranking it up at home isn't an option if you live with or near other humans, but for clean tones and pedal-driven ones, you can get some super nice sounds and still get some of that 3-D tube sound. What sort of small amps do you love, Gathering folks? (A pic of my amp, with a special guest:)

Looking forward to it! Regarding the on-campus accomodations for those who choose that route, will they be the same as last year? Will they be available for the whole conference? Just wondering if I need to book a room for any nights - hotels can get expensive in Nashville

I got some of the Professor Green's products at the last Gathering and I really like them. Bonus - they smell great! I use fretboard oil maybe two or three times a year on a guitar. Probably overkill, but I worry about living in a dry climate too. In any case my fretboards all seem to be doing great

That SynthAxe looks interesting, but what's baffling is that Firebird X. After I got done setting up all those accessories it'd be time to go to bed.

I've just returned home to Minneapolis and rejoined the living - work was conspiring to punish me for being off last week I have a lot of photos and videos, and I'll work to posting some of them here. I think I'll post the videos over on the main Guitar Gathering facebook page so that people who follow our guitar tribe can get a look-in to the retreat that was as well. Did I enjoy the retreat? Have I mentioned that I'm already registered for next year's retreat?

Great points 000. Personally I never had an interest in jazz when I first did L&MG, and I even skipped over that lesson because of it. Later I came back and thought "whoa, this is cool". Started learning some jazz chords, bought a The Real Book, toyed around with it. Then I developed an actual interest in Jazz itself outside of guitar playing and discovered another musical landscape I had never visited before. All new colors, all new ideas... all things new. I just wish more jazz books were written for people who can't read music, but maybe I just need to learn

My guitar instructor, who's a jazz/fusion/prog/everything guy has one of his books. It's crazy, the complexity of it - the millions of chord charts and his encyclopedic knowledge of theory. Wonderful player for sure.

Just registered! Excited to go back to Nashville for my second Gathering!

Hard to imagine how they could impact tone much or at all since they are not touching the vibrating part of the string like the nut or saddle... if it has any effect you’d probably need to have a lot more acute ears than me ?

This is really interesting. I have been looking for ways I can practice like I was in a band, listening to the other instruments and keeping time and all. I will look into it!

Super excited to come and enjoy the week at the Fingerstyle Retreat! I can't wait! One thing I was wondering about, for those of you who have been before, is - what should we bring? Beyond the obvious things, I was wondering if there is a need to bring things like a music stand or a guitar stand, as some people had recommended for the summer Gathering. Are those things useful at the Fingerstyle retreat, or is this close enough quarters and an intimate setting, to where they aren't needed? See you there!

Boy, sonic blue looks different today. I like that shoreline gold color though. I wish I had a Jazzmaster in that color

I think that letting her pick one out is a great idea! Everybody should have the guitar they think is the coolest In seriousness though, I think that the Yamaha Pacificas are great value, I had one at one time and it was great for the money. The Squier Classic Vibe series is one I would consider too. Hope your husband and wife duo gets off to a slamming start!
