  1. Best clamps for all things, in my opinion. Bessie Clamps. Expensive, but they are well worth it. Greg
  2. Thanks so much Mandy for captaining this ship for the recent past. Your tutorship and contributions have been deeply appreciated by those of us who love to follow this thread. I have felt your enthusiasm and witnessed your performance development throughout your engagement with song writing and recording and hope to see and hear you playing and singing again in the future. Best thoughts always. Hats off and thanks to Wim for continuing the tradition. You are an inspirational leader to steer this onward for us. Best wishes also. Greg
  3. Perfect for an uplifting listen as we start a new year. Great style and swing, love it . Greg
  4. The holidays caught me preoccupied with my new arrival, A Kemper Kabinet-the spelling there's not mine. I already had the Kemper Profiler and was using it for recording and playing live with a Seymour Duncan PowerStage and a custom cab from a local maker I float through phases with my gear... tube amps, Fractal Axe8, Kemper ( my Line 6 HD 500 just gathers dust) and find enjoyment in all but this Kab was intriguing. The cab allows for 19 classic cabinet speaker images stored in the software of the Kemper, and the tones are truly quite amazing. One never really has the opportunity to trial different cabinets and speakers for the differences that each provide. The output quality is so much better than my custom cab and I have been consumed with lining up Kemper rigs, cabinets and songs from my favorite artists. The only downside is I have neglected my guitar studies in my pursuits . Blame Santa for that. Greg
  5. They got it backwards. Jewelry first, then PRS guitar. Bet your wife was surprised. Greg
  6. This will be great! Thanks for sharing Girard. Greg
  7. What a great guitar to add to ring out your fabulous playing chops. Congrats and make some sweet music with it. Greg
  8. Fabulous Mike. What a beautiful addition to your collection. Must have been a very, very good boy last year. You deserve it. Greg
  9. The A chord is an interesting dilemma for me. There are multiple ways to finger and I play them all at times. My problem, personally is that I tend to be heavy handed with my fretting hand, primarily due to my history of thumb surgeries and the difficulty for consistent ideal thumb placement on the neck. I have to get sloppy at times with no gapping in the palm. because of thumb pain. The result is that sometimes I pull the G string sharp with the 1,2,3 and 2,3,4 fingerings of the A, but do not with the barre . I compensate by by getting wound G strings (seemingly more resistant to bending sharp with my technique) or a thicker G string. Or I just barre. My advise is to consider practicing multiple fingerings to prepare for the flexibility is gives as you become more advanced with chord knowledge and skill. Eventually all will become familiar enough and will as Eraser says give you the ability to use finger 1 ( or 4) for other movements. The same advise goes for the G chord. Greg
  10. I am so deeply sorry for you in this sad and difficult time. You shared your husband's story with me in the past, and I held hopes and prayers that all would become better and hopeful for you both. It is impossible for anyone to know what grief a loss is like until you experience it. I did so with my father two years ago. For you to lose a life partner is heartbreaking. Like Fretless, please reach out to me if you need someone to communicate with. I don't Zoom, but we have shared valued PM's in the past. My heartfelt condolences to you. As others have said, the music will return when it is the right time. It can be a grand healer. Greg
  11. Wow, tough for me to play without reference materials...such is the case of an aging brain. I’m lucky to play well even with them. Such a great test for you though. Congrats on the opportunity. Here’s hoping for more Greg
  12. Yowser David! Excellent recording and arrangement. You are an inspiration to any budding jazz student. How did your audition go? Sadly, the times prevent you from opportunities for public performance now. Good to hear from you again. Thanks for sharing. Greg Greg
  13. Awesome! One of my favorite Clapton tunes. Thanks again for the musical treat. Greg
  14. I'm sorry it took me so long to discover this post, Diane. I am beyond impressed by the extent of your musical evolution. This is truly amazing and vastly beyond my realizations of your talents and abilities. So very cool to capture this piece for my musical library . I am truly blessed to have friends like you. Greg
  15. Wonderful music, Wim, so very soothing and moving. Congrats on your graduation, a distinguished and considerable achievement. Greg
  16. I bought one of these ( less expensive model) from a local shop. kept it for a day, then returned it. The fretboard segments didn't line up flat, string buzzing everywhere and the intonation was way off. No way to correct it. Perhaps just a factory lemon, but a quick reject for me. Not necessarily an indictment on all of their products, just an experience of one. Greg
  17. Super fun Mandy. You have the perfect voice for this song as well. What a kick! Greg
  18. A slide/everything friend and I decided to put together a little closed Facebook group with the above reference title and invited a few friends to be part of our fun time playing group. We meet on Mondays outdoors, staying socially distanced and alternate plugged in and unplugged Mondays to play whatever we throw out on the wall to see what sticks. Different folks show up , depending on musical interests, although it appears there is mostly a hardcore group open to all musical forms. The bluegrass and country folks seem to like to stick to their genre. A couple weeks ago on Labor Day, 6 of us gathered and played at the slide players house driveway plugged in , and invited the neighbors to drop in if they wanted to listen. We had a great time for a couple hours before the smoke from the NW fires drifted in late. As we were near finishing, a local patrol car rolled up, and an officer stepped out with a smile and informed us someone in the neighborhood complained about the noise. He told us that he personally thought we were just fine and not too loud, but just be aware of the complaint, and we let him know we were almost done. When he left we all high fived each other-imagine us, a 60+ aged band of rebels getting called out by the local noise police. How cool was that!! I hope my grandkids are proud of me. Now, just need a name for this ragtag group of outlaws.....The Rocking Walker Chairs, or maybe The Defibrillators. So many possibilities.....I am open for suggestions. Greg
  19. I recently read a quote from country icon Vince Gill that all he ever sought from music was to be moved by it. Listening to your recording, one of my all time favorite songs, I was truly moved . The song is deeply emotional, provocative and thought provoking to begin with, and you captured and framed all of that essence in a brilliant interpretation. Thank you so much for sharing your music with us. Should you choose to create an album of songs, let me be the first on your list to purchase it. Greg
  20. I know this is a guitar forum, but just a brief response Triple-O. An unprecedented wind storm in the NW .associated with an unseasonal cold front into the Rockies, ultra-dry humidity and record heat have turned the NW and California into massive fire zones. I suffered significant wind damage to my property, and living rurally, am somewhat anxious of the potential for a fire ignition in my locale. Even a coastal town is evacuating. I have taken to index and record all of my musical and woodworking gear in the last couple days just in case I have to evacuate. We , in this part of the country are used to temperate, even wet climates, much of the year. I have lived here most of my life...nothing like this has ever occured. I pray for the families of whole towns that have been wiped out by fire. 2020 has been a difficult year for all. Sorry again for sidetracking the forum on a non-guitar topic. Greg
  21. Super Mandy! What a big leap forward with fingerstyle. I concur with Fretless with your significant progress. Greg
  22. Taylor’s are great guitars. I have a nylon string model with a slightly wider neck than a typical acoustic. Very sweet sounding. I have played several Grand Pacifics at stores and loved every one of them. You will have hours of musical pleasure with this beauty. Excellent find! Greg
  23. Very nice guitar Randy. Congrats and thanks for the visual treat. Greg
