  1. Hello everyone, I am stepping down from running this series of Challenges but I have excellent news for you ....... @Wim VD1 has kindly agreed to take over. I would like to thank Wim very much for agreeing to do this, I did not want to just drop this as I believe that recording your work and sharing it is important for the development of musicians and now it is even more so with the global Covid problem. I will bow out and leave Wim to pick this months winner etc.

A big thank you to all who have posted recordings in the past and I hope you will continue to do so and that others will join in too. Thank you also to those of you who have taken the time to post words of encouragement for us or have hit the like button. Without you people would most likely stop posting their recordings and these Challenges would disappear.

You have not heard the last from me yet, I will still hang around this forum and if you are really unlucky I may post a song or two. 🤓

  3. My friends.

As some of you know, I have been looking after my husband/soulmate who was diagnosed with Cancer some years ago. In October he was admitted to hospital with suspected Pneumonia but weeks and weeks of antibiotics did not help him. The hospital then did a scan and they saw that my husband's cancer had transformed into an aggressive form and it had progressed so far that there was nothing that they could do for him. He came home where I was able to nurse him until he died (less than 2 weeks). This is the hardest thing I have ever had to live through.

I have not picked up a guitar for weeks now. It is on my "To Do" list but I just have not got the enthusiasm at the moment.

Take care of yourselves and of those who you love.

    Mandy

  4. Hello All, this months Recording Challenge topic was chosen by 3rdwaverider “The Beatles”.

3rdwaverider said “I had an idea: what if the challenge aspect of the recording is that we ask that the guitarist play any Beatles tune, but adapt it to his or her favorite genre:  play it as a jazz tune (using chord embellishments), as a country tune, using major and dominant chords, as an acoustic tune, or finger style.

Please also feel free to post Christmas songs.

Next months winner will be chosen by the “Random Picker” and the winner will get to choose the next topic.

    1. NeilES335 playing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

    2. 3rdwaverider playing "I Want to Hold your Hand"
  5. This months Recording Challenge comes from me, the topic is Movies/Tv/Theatre.

Any song or tune that has been used in a film or a theatre production or a television program. As usual the "winner":will be picked at random and the prize is that they get to choose the topic for the next challenge.

    1. Wim VD1 playing “Tears in Heaven”

    2. 3rdwaverider playing “Here’s that Rainy Day”

I have on occasion used the Voice memos app on iOS and have been disappointed with the results.

Henk if you have an iOS device then you have free access to GarageBand. You will find it in the App Store. GarageBand is an amazing software package which I highly recommend for a first DAW.

If you are going to work with an iPad or iPhone a cheap but good way to connect your guitar is an iRig2 which is a good low cost interface. This is much better than using the internal microphone.

If you are thinking about working with a Mac or Pc and had more cash to spend a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a great interface (it does not work with tablets though). Macs also get GarageBand for free.

If you wish to record to a Pc you could always install Audacity which is free (they also have a free Mac version) https://www.audacityteam.org

  7. Here is my go at "Stray Cat Strut" by The Stray Cats. All the chords were barre chords here and all the instruments were real ones played by me.

This recording is a first for me because:

    1. I have actually used the Whammy Bar!

    2. I played the drum parts with my electronic drum kit (the type that you play like a real drum kit with sticks and feet). But I did have to do a bit of timing correction (as with the guitar parts).

I have played the song at a much slower tempo than the original. I have only just begun to be able to do barre chords again as I appear to be having a slightly better time with the arthritis and trigger fingers. I can not play this song all in one go yet because of fatigue (or I may be using a death grip on my guitar neck).

Please note No cats were harmed during the making of this track.😆

  8. I have just checked the fund raising web site. They did not get enough funding and have cancelled the campaign. They said

"This does not mean the cancellation of the Slite.

We will now take some time to set back, think about our project, and how we can meet our end : to improve the way guitarists interact with their instrument and create the 21st century guitar. This is but a minor setback on our journey."
