  1. Dear Fellow Members; As many will know, its been my privilege to serve here in the moderator chair since the inception of this Guitar Gathering site in January 2018. Im proud to say Ive helped it grow from Zero to nearly 1700 members, and hope that I've been able to make some worthwhile contribution. To be run well it requires regular (daily) attention. I find now, that due to other commitments, it is necessary, for me to share the duties with another eminently qualified member. Please join me in welcoming @DianeB as co-moderator!

  2. This topic has probably been addressed numerous times in the past. To avoid searching back through all the posts, I will ask the question once again. My goal here is to merely record my practice to hear and analyze my playing. At this point I only have acoustic guitars without electronics. Hoping to make it simple and keep it inexpensive. I have recorded with my phone on video but it is too distorted to be of much help. Appreciate your ideas.

  4. Hi Steve, I have a question. How did Rick learn to play? Did he get any music education, or did he learn by try and error and by listening to others? And how does he maintain his playing technique now? Thanks, Wim.

  10. Thanks, Neil, for all you do. It's needed. You are aware, I hope, that an organized desk is the sign of a sick mind. Just a joke. Lotsa luck. Best, John 😀

  11. What most here have found is that getting into digital recording using a DAW and mic's is a learning curve just as steep as learning to play an instrument and can become just as gear intensive. Even doing a simple recording of acoustic and vocals through a DAW will require some learning, but if your goal is to eventually do high quality recordings of your playing, its the way to go. That said, I still wish I had gone with a Zoom/Tascam as my first recording solution rather than a DAW.

  14. Hi everyone, I will be singing a couple of songs live with my guitar next Saturday at an intimate evening session organised by my singing teacher for students to build experience in performing in front of others. From previous ones I've done, I've learned that it's not good to practice unplugged and then suddenly be surprised by the sound when you're plugged into a loud P.A. on the night (one night was a complete car crash)!! As a result, I've been making an effort to practice with a mic and my acoustic guitar both plugged into my acoustic amp and with the volume turned quite high (sorry neighbours!). Anyway, a couple of evenings ago when I finished, I messed around with a song that I won't be doing on the night and haven't done before. I was pleasantly surprised and quite pleased how it turned out so I thought I'd share. So, this is sung and played live through a Loudbox acoustic amp and was just recorded on my iPhone (no editing and no post-processing). The ending needs some work though. For anyone out there that is looking to venture out of the bedroom and try performing in front of others, i.e. at open mic, I'd thoroughly recommend that your practice includes simulation of what might happen on the night (e.g. you can't hear yourself properly through the monitors, or the P.A. sounds incredibly loud and bassy, or somebody drops a glass... all of these things can really put you off). 15. I use my voice recorder app on my phone, not video. I put it on my music stand.
